In the next weeks, co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s fairytale at Wrexham could result in back-to-back promotions.
Wrexham, led by Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, is a strong candidate to complete back-to-back promotions after defeating Mansfield Town 2-0 to move one point behind Stockport, who are atop the League Two standings.
The TV stars Reynolds and McElhenney owned the Red Dragons, who were promoted back to the Football League at the second attempt last season. In the FA Cup, where they faced tougher competition both in the previous season and this one, Phil Parkinson’s team performed admirably.
With six games remaining, Wrexham is now level with their rivals and one point ahead of Stockport thanks to a brace from Paul Mullin that put an end to Mansfield. In just six games, a lot can happen. A few losses might cause Wrexham to fall outside of the top three automatic promotion slots.
Parkinson’s team will, nevertheless, like their chances, and the top spot in the division may be up for grabs going into the final day of League Two against championship rivals Stockport. The last day of the season, Wrexham will be at home at the Racecourse Ground.
Even though they had a great boost in confidence with their recent victory against Mansfield, everyone at the club is aware that they still have a long way to go in their quest for an exceptional second consecutive promotion. Manager Parkinson has issued a focus challenge to his troops.
“We had to dig deep in terms of concentration levels as well as the physicality and it is a hard-earned victory,” Parkinson stated. We handled our loss against Tranmere here quite coolly and collectedly, so we didn’t feel too depressed. Likewise, we won’t become overly optimistic following today. There are still six games left, and this one is certainly a victory against one of our competitors.
“But for now, it’s about getting ready for Tuesday’s exciting game at Doncaster. We were aware from the beginning that this category is quite competitive.
“Mansfield is just one of many teams in the division that have been around for a while and have been developing for years to have a season like this. We are having fun, even if it’s competitive. The boys are loving every game and learning a lot from today.
Reiterating his manager’s remarks, Will Boyle claims that nothing has changed. Boyle wants to keep the Wrexham supporters, himself, and his teammates grounded for the time being.
“If we hadn’t won or we’d have lost, we wouldn’t have been down in the dumps on the floor, as I’m sure Mansfield won’t be,” he stated. “There is no denying that this is a significant victory, as they will all be over the following six games.
“The rest will work itself out if we concentrate on ourselves and carry out our duties as we did on Friday. As hopefully as we do, there are strong clubs at the top of the table who will win games and accrue points going forward.”
