Zack Moss, a running back, was wooed by multiple teams in free agency, including the Dallas Cowboys. However, Moss ultimately decided to accept a two-year contract with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Moss gave his explanation of why he chose Cincinnati over Dallas on a recent visit on Up and Adams. Personnel and the team’s attacking strategy were highlighted as crucial elements.
“Cincy just made the most sense,” Moss said. “From the structure of the offense and how the offense is played, and kind of the scheme of the offense and what they want to do. It’s a lot of shotgun offense, a lot of inside zone gap scheme runs and things of that nature.
“It’s hard to turn down a guy like [Joe] Burrow, guys like [Ja’Marr] Chase and [Tee] Higgins and just all the talent on both sides of the ball,” he added. “It’s so much space, that really intrigued me,” Moss said. “Being able to play in a box when you only got six guys, maybe seven and if there’s seven, it’s kind of gonna be real hard for them defend the pass game. So it’s just something that I was like very, very intrigued about and super excited to be a Bengal.”
Following a career-best season in Indianapolis the previous year, Moss will likely have a demanding workload in Cincinnati in 2024 as Joe Mixon’s replacement. In Cincinnati’s revamped backfield, Moss will line up alongside second-year running back Chase Brown, despite the fact that Moss has a lot more experience than Brown. In his first campaign last year, Brown managed just 44 attempts for 179 total yards.
Although the Bengals are happy to have Moss, the Cowboys are sad to have lost him considering the present depth of their running back roster. Dallas did not sign any veteran backs to replace Tony Pollard, who was lost to free agency. Dallas fans shouldn’t be too optimistic about the Cowboys ground game’s prospects for the upcoming campaign, despite the fact that they still haven’t experienced much at the position.
