PAUL MULLIN is within touching distance of hitting the 100-goal mark for Wrexham and Will Boyle wants his team-mate to reach the milestone as quickly as possible to help keep the Reds on track for automatic promotion.
The prolific striker bagged a brace in a 2-0 win over title rivals Mansfield Town at The Racecourse on Good Friday which kept Phil Parkinson’s side third in League Two.
Top scorer with 20 goals this season, Mullin has struck 99 times since joining Wrexham from Cambridge United in the summer of 2021 and centre-back Boyle remarked: “It’s not bad going that!
“To get that in three years is some achievement so hopefully he doesn’t go too long until he gets to a century.”
Mullin gets the chance to hit the century when Wrexham continue the push for a top-three finish against Doncaster Rovers at The Eco-Power Stadium this evening.
The Reds’ away form has improved of late, with Parkinson’s men winning 3-1 in their last two matches on the road at Grimsby and Morecambe, with Boyle aiming to make it a hat-trick at Doncaster.
“We spoke about that, probably a month or so ago, that we needed to try and turn the away form around,” added Boyle.
“We are right up there for home form in the table and the away table, I think we were down in seventh or eighth when we looked at it.
“I imagine we have climbed it now and we are putting in some professional and resolute performances.
“There’s still a long way to go, we have still got to do that a good few more times now so hopefully we can start that on Tuesday.
“We had a good result last week on the road at Grimsby and hopefully we can follow-up the Mansfield win.
“We will be looking to go again, put in a good performance and see where it takes us.”
Boyle, brought in from Championship outfit Huddersfield Town last summer, is enjoying a good run in the Wrexham side, putting in some excellent performances alongside Max Cleworth and Eoghan O’Connell.
“It is enjoyable being in the team, especially when you are winning games,” he added.
“We have got lads who work so hard – not just defenders – and it is nice to be able to keep a clean sheet as a team, and reward them as well as us.
“Obviously that’s what us defenders are after but there’s a lot of selfless work that goes on in front of us as well, so it’s nice to get the clean sheet as well as the three points.”
