Oli McBurnie, a striker for Sheffield United who was born in Leeds, has stated that he wants to join Rangers in order to play for the Old Firm derby against Celtic.

When the 27-year-old’s Bramall Lane contract expires in the summer, he will become a free agent.

This season, the Ibrox team has been connected to him, and Philippe Clement may wish to add a striker in the summer.

According to the Daily Record, McBurnie stated on the Stomping Ground podcast, “Listen, it’s a special club.” Have you visited the Old Firm before? I’ve attended a lot of Old Firms, but I’ve never played or watched a game quite like it. The majority of those who have visited them will agree.

“I’ve always wanted to play for the Rangers, and I was a huge fan growing up. All that matters is timing.

“I hope one day, by the end of my career, I play for Rangers. I hope I get to experience that side of it.

“If I don’t, I don’t. But I hope by the end of my career I can say I’ve played in an Old Firm at one point.”

Rangers may benefit from signing McBurnie

McBurnie could prove to be a shrewd addition to Gers as he is a proven goalscorer with experience playing in the Premier League for Sheffield United.

Despite the team’s struggles, the 27-year-old has managed to find the back of the net consistently, showcasing his ability to perform at a high level.

McBurnie’s affinity for the club, having grown up supporting them, could bring a level of passion and commitment to the team.

His desire to fulfil his childhood dream of playing for Gers could drive him to excel on the pitch and make significant contributions to the team’s success.

Additionally, with Clement likely seeking reinforcements up front and McBurnie’s contract set to expire in the summer, the timing could be right for Rangers to pursue his signature.

McBurnie, a free agent, offers the Rangers an affordable way to increase their offensive options without going over budget.

In other Rangers news, there has been a personal update indicating that a prominent first-team player may be leaving Ibrox this summer.
