The Premier League has stated that Everton has been docked an additional two points for violating the Profitability and Sustainability guidelines (PSR).
After the Toffees’ financial reports for the 2022–2023 season were released in January, they were referred to an independent commission. Earlier in the season, the team was deducted 10 points, which were later reduced to six on appeal.
They now need to drop two more points in order to move up in the Premier League standings. Now, two points behind Nottingham Forest in the league, Sean Dyche’s team is ranked 16th.
Everton has not stated if or not they will file an appeal following their second penalty. They have seven days to notify others of their intention to do so, though.
In a three-day hearing last month, Everton reportedly outlined its case, according to Liverpool Echo, our sister publication. The independent commission handling Nottingham Forest’s charge only gave them a four-point deduction for a breach that was 77% larger than Everton’s, acknowledging that it could not be certain how even the reduced punishment handed to the Blues had been calculated. The appeal panel for Everton’s first charge stated that there had been two “legal errors” in the club’s original verdict.
With six games left, Forest is now two points behind Everton despite the Toffees having a game in hand due to the most recent point deduction.
