Wrexham’s second consecutive promotion may be only a few days away, but the team’s striker, Paul Mullin, says it’s still a long way off.

Having overseen festivities to avoid the National League the previous season, Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are now bringing Wrexham closer to League One.

They know that a win over promotion-chasing Crawley on Tuesday would pave the way for them to play Forest Green Rovers this weekend in the play-offs.

Star Mullin, however, issued a warning: “Talking about leaving this league just yet is pointless since anything can happen in one game, much alone with four left to play.

Mullin scores Wrexham’s 100th goal in a thrilling victory.
“Until it’s accomplished, I have nothing to say about it, therefore I’m refusing to talk about it.

“Since nothing is proven until it’s done, it’s as far away as it’s ever been—not in touching distance. We’re not going to go ahead of ourselves.

As opponents’ games near to end, the North Wales team is presently ranked second in the League Two standings.

With three games left, Phil Parkinson’s team would be five points ahead of MK Dons, who will play Mansfield this next weekend, if they defeated Crawley at the Racecourse.

By Saturday, a pair of victories in two home games combined with opponents below dropping points might complete the deal.

A maximum of eight points from four games would ensure Wrexham’s return to the third tier for the first time in twenty years, even if the results went against them.

But Mullin, who scored the team’s 100th goal over the weekend against Colchester, stated: “We’ve already seen in the last few weeks that anything can happen, so there’s no point even thinking about it before the game on Tuesday.

“We have two home games to look forward to and we will be full of confidence, but we know how challenging it’s going to be because we’re at the stage of the season where everyone is fighting; we’re fighting for promotion, Crawley are fighting for the play-offs. Every game is massive and will be an almighty struggle.”

Wrexham are likely to be without Jacob Mendy for the game with Crawley who have won five of their last seven, including a 4-1 win over Mansfield on Saturday.

Wrexham had to come from behind in their win at Colchester, young defender Max Cleworth the unlikely hero after Mullin’s effort that made it a century of goals in just 136 appearances since joining three seasons ago.

“People can stop asking me about it now and we can crack on with trying to win games,” Mullin said of the landmark.

“Winning games is all that matters at this point in the season, regardless of performance.

“And for Max, who has been with the club from a very young age, to get such an important goals is massive for him.”
