Ahead of what might be a significant summer drama, reporter Pete O’Rourke has provided a concerning update on the future of Everton center-back Jarrad Branthwaite.

Despite several point deductions, the Merseysiders will be looking to finish the season as unharmed as possible and maintain their Premier League membership.
Maxence Lacroix, a center-back for VfL Wolfsburg, has been connected to Everton, and he might join the team at the end of the current season if they can avoid being relegated to the Championship.
Samuel Iling-Junior, a young Englishman who is failing to establish a regular role at his present club, has been dubbed a “assist machine” by Juventus and is expected to join the Blues soon. At the youth team level, he has scored seven goals for England, playing for six different age groups, including the Under-21s.
There are also plenty of players who could leave Goodison Park this summer, with Amadou Onana arguably the player who has been linked with a move away most often. The Belgian midfielder is thought to be wanted by a host of big clubs, including Premier League pair Arsenal and Newcastle United, along with La Liga giants Barcelona.
Branthwaite is also a target for some huge teams, from Manchester City to Manchester United, with the centre-back possibly feeling that now is the right time to enjoy a new challenge at a club challenging for major honours. He has been hailed as “magnificent” by Alan Shearer and “very brave” by Ian Wright.
It remains to be seen if Jordan Pickford will still be an Everton player when the 2024/25 season gets underway, too, but Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar has been lined up as a positive replacement for him, should he move on.
Everton endures a cruel update from Jarrad Branthwaite
O’Rourke of Football Insider claims that although Everton had previously sought £70 million for Branthwaite, they may now lose him in the summer for a pittance. It is referred to as a “unexpected and demoralising twist” because the club could have to accept a smaller payment in order to generate money before the next deadline for financial accounts, which is June 30.
Given what a terrific young player the 21-year-old is, losing him in the summer is awful enough, but having to let him leave for less than the desired amount would be much more devastating, particularly at a time when the Blues are already struggling financially.
In actuality, it nearly makes more sense for Everton to cash in on Branthwaite and use the money to acquire several quality additions rather than a single replacement. Onana is similarly applicable, but only for significant sums that cover the team’s expenses and enable bookkeeping.
It is hoped that the Englishman’s condition and his contract would improve, although losing a valuable player on a cheap deal would be emblematic of the Blues’ current woes.
