Wrexham defeated Forest Green Rovers 6-0 at the STōK Cae Ras on Saturday afternoon, securing their first League One appearance since 2005.
Phil Parkinson was aware that Wrexham was in a strong position after hammering Crawley Town during the midweek.
Naturally, Wrexham easily defeated Forest Green Rovers, as was to be anticipated from the bottom team in League Two.
Wrexham was up 2-0 and dominating thanks to goals from Elliot Lee and Paul Mullin, but Ryan Inniss threw the ball in his own net.
Mullin made it 4-0, and goals in the second half from Ryan Barnett and Jack Marriott only served to embellish the score.
Supporters within the STōK Cae Ras have likely been alternating between the breathtaking display from Wrexham and the latest news from MK Dons versus Mansfield Town.
Wrexham was defeated 4-1 by Mansfield, and the crowd that flocked to the pitch to celebrate a second promotion in a year was sufficient to seal the deal.
Tranmere Rovers receive a message from James McClean
We are aware that not everyone will have appreciated Wrexham’s promotion, so we are not being foolish here.
Wrexham’s demise is presumably something that many rival supporters and even supporters of teams who haven’t played Wrexham in a very long time are cheering for.
That’s what happens when you have a documentary series and two Hollywood owners.
James McClean has now issued some comments to Tranmere Rovers supporters, and we can only guess what they are saying.
In March, McClean expressed his displeasure after he saw Tranmere replacement Jean Belehouan wildly celebrating the team’s 1-0 victory over Wrexham.
After Wrexham’s promotion, McClean sent a message to Tranmere, calling Belehouan “embarrassing.”
In an Instagram post after Saturday’s victory, the Irishman said that playing for Wrexham this season has been a “absolute pleasure” since joining the team last summer.
After that, McClean joked that teams like Newport County, Accrington Stanley, and Tranmere could rejoice by taking home the “we beat Wrexham cup.”
“Thank you for winning the Wrexham Cup this season, Newport, Accie, and Tranmere. Enjoy your celebrations, and we hope you enjoy ours,” McClean stated.
Humphrey Ker, Rob McElhenney, Ryan Reynolds, and Ben Tozer were among those who laughed heartily in the comments section in support of his message.
Can McClean remain at Wrexham?
Last summer, McClean, who was previously with Wigan Athletic of League One, signed a one-year contract to join Wrexham.
With four goals and 13 assists in all competitions this season, the 34-year-old has been a key player.
We anticipate that McClean’s option to extend his contract by one more year with Wrexham will be exercised.
Despite his upcoming 35th birthday, McClean has established himself as a useful player who can play in midfield as well as as a left wing back.
Parkinson places a high value on McClean’s expertise, and since he has recently performed at a higher level, we believe Wrexham will want to keep him on staff.
