Wrexham clinched promotion to League One on Saturday afternoon and two players have now been named in the League Two Team of the Season.

Saturday was a dream for Wrexham supporters as another promotion – the second inside the last year – was secured in style.

Wrexham hammered League Two’s bottom club Forest Green Rovers 6-0 to secure a spot in League One.

Paul Mullin bagged a brace whilst Elliot Lee, Ryan Barnett and Jack Marriott also found the net alongside a Ryan Inniss own goal.

That was enough to send Wrexham up as Mansfield Town beat MK Dons 4-1, sealing Phil Parkinson’s second promotion in a row.

Everybody around Wrexham is in party mode right now – and seemingly planning another end-of-season party in Las Vegas.

Wrexham players in Team of the Season

A few Wrexham players may have sore heads today but there was an EFL Awards ceremony in London on Sunday evening.

This where the official League Two Team of the Season was announced and Wrexham had two players in there.

You may expect Paul Mullin to be in there, maybe even Andy Cannon after his superb displays in the promotion run-in.

That wasn’t the case though as goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo and playmaker Elliot Lee flew the flag for Wrexham.

Both were included in the Team of the Season but some Wrexham fans may not be impressed with third-place Mansfield Town having more players in the team than Wrexham.

Stockport County only had one player in the team too but Wrexham fans will be delighted for both Okonkwo and Lee after their inclusions.

Elliot Lee misses out on award

Lee was named in the Team of the Season but not everything went his way on EFL Awards night.

The Wrexham ace was also nominated for the League Two Player of the Season award earlier in April.

That award was handed out on Sunday night but, sadly, it didn’t go to Lee.

Instead, Notts County ace Jodi Jones took the trophy home after a ridiculous record of 23 assists in 40 games this season.

Lee won’t be too disheartened; promotion, a goal and being named in the Team of the Season.

Not bad going for Lee, who may be looking to make it three promotions in a row as a Wrexham player next season.
