Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney unveiled a high-profile drinks partnership with US giant Gatorade in typically light-hearted fashion.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The north Wales club announced the deal, which will supply Gatorade products to the men’s and women’s sides and see products featured in the wildly-popular Welcome to Wrexham documentary series, accompanied by some very on-brand remarks from the club’s Hollywood owners.
WHAT REYNOLDS AND MCELHENNEY SAID
Announcing the deal via the club’s official website, Reynolds and McElhenney said: “We are incredibly pleased and humbled to welcome Gatorade as an official partner of Wrexham Association Football Club. We are officially pretty darn official! Our decision early on to have Aviation Gin in those water bottles was reckless and shortsighted. Luckily, our team has forgiven us and has gone on to perform admirably, in part thanks to Gatorade! We look forward to a few more Gatorade dunks in the years to come.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE
The step up to League One, which regularly features a host of big clubs aiming to climb back to the Championship, promises to be a huge challenge for those Reynolds and McElhenney have entrusted to run the club. But one advantage Wrexham should be able to exploit is an unprecedented ability to earn commercial income, exemplified by the Gatorade deal and another pre-season tour of the United States featuring three matches against opponents soon to be announced.
WHAT NEXT FOR WREXHAM?
With the club’s promotion secured with two games to spare, fans can relax and get the popcorn ready for Season Three of Welcome to Wrexham which is due to be released for May 2.
