With their promotion to League One on Saturday, Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds’ Wrexham tale just keeps getting better.

Wrexham returned to the third division on Saturday after nearly 20 years away, defeating Forest Green Rovers 6-0.

Stockport County’s victory may have put the League Two title out of reach, but that won’t dim the excitement surrounding another Wrexham promotion.

Wrexham is quickly moving up from the National League to League One with back-to-back promotions.

With some very large clubs still in League One, Wrexham will face new hurdles as a result of this most recent promotion.

McElhenney and Reynolds will now need to plan and strategize for Wrexham, with consolidation most definitely the immediate objective rather than additional promotion.

Ryan Reynolds message to Rob McElhenney

The end of the season is in sight now, but so is another season of Welcome to Wrexham.

The popular documentary series, which follows Wrexham’s unsuccessful attempt to move up from the National League in 2021–2022 before crossing the finish line in 2023, has been an enormous popularity.

The release date of series three was originally set for today, April 18, but it has now been moved to May 2.

The show’s anticipation among fans will be intense, after a sneak preview was made public overnight in America.

Prior to McElhenney’s interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, a preview for the upcoming series was aired.

We watched as Reynolds delivered a heartfelt note to McElhenney prior to Wrexham’s League Two opener against Milton Keynes Dons.

Reynolds was determined not to let the opportunity pass and wanted to show McElhenney how much he and he valued being back in the EFL.

Reynolds remarked, “Here we are once more, the start of another season, you and me.” “Wishfully a hundred more times—what a unique experience. We should commemorate the fact that we are now standing in the English Football League by saying, “Holy ****.” Let’s not let it pass. We’ve now entered the English ******* Football League,” he continued.

Wrexham lost the match 5-3, but Reynolds and company can now rejoice once more as they were promoted to League One.

Some difficult decisions to come

Even non-Wrexham fans have formed a bond with some of the squad thanks to Welcome to Wrexham.

Wrexham’s rapid rise from National League to League One will though force some difficult decisions.

Some players were able to step up to League Two with ease but League One is a different beast.

Popular players such as Rob Lainton, Ben Tozer and Luke Young are all out of contract this summer, as are the likes of Aaron Hayden and Jordan Tunnicliffe.

Wrexham may need to take sentimentality out of the equation and let some of these players go in order to take the next step in the club’s project.

Saying goodbye to players is never easy, especially when they have played such a key role in the two promotions, but Wrexham may need to be ruthless this summer.
