When Leeds United visits Middlesbrough on Monday night, they know that a victory will suffice. In the Championship, Daniel Farke’s team has only triumphed once in their previous five games. They need to improve rapidly if they are to guarantee automatic promotion this year.
The boss will want to make sure the Whites are focused on themselves, but they could use some positive outcomes this weekend as Southampton travels to Cardiff City and Leicester City plays West Bromwich Albion. A postponement of Ipswich Town’s Saturday match has occurred because to Coventry City’s FA Cup commitments.
Before the Championship action gets underway we take a look at some of the key headlines out there.
Summerville situation ‘open’
Fabrizio Romano reports that Leeds United would meet with Crysencio Summerville’s representatives at the end of the season in an attempt to retain him. It appears the team will be ready for summer interest whether they return to the top tier or not, since Summerville has already been linked to a number of clubs, both in the Premier League and elsewhere.
Romano, in an interview with Give Me Sport, asserts that the winger’s future is “open,” but he thinks Leeds may have a difficult time keeping up with the caliber of teams following him. Over the past several days, Summerville’s incredible season has been acknowledged. The Dutchman was named the EFL Championship Player of the Season and was also named the Leeds United Players’ Player of the Year on Thursday night.
It’s understandable why Summerville is garnering so much interest, and it’s safe to say that Leeds’ ability to recapture a Premier League berth may have a significant impact on his future at Elland Road.
Rodon prediction made
When the season ends, Joe Rodon might think about returning to Tottenham Hotspur this summer. According to Alan Hutton, a former player for Tottenham, the Welshman will likely return to north London to discuss his future with the team.
Leeds will be eager to sign Rodon permanently this summer, especially if they are promoted to the Premier League, given he has shown great success during his loan period there. Hutton has cautioned, though, that at this point, no action is certain.
According to Hutton, Rodon “will always want to come back,” as he put it to Tottenham News. “Going to Leeds, playing every week, doing well, and returning to his parent club would have been his first plan since this is the team he will want to play for.
“It’s going to come down to him and what he wants to do in the future moving forward. He’ll need to discuss with both clubs to see if Tottenham see his future there or not and if they’re willing to sell is it a factor if Leeds go up or not?
“For the player, does he want to play in the Championship again if they don’t make it or does he see himself as a Premier League player? There are lots of ifs, buts and maybes thrown in there, but he has done really well.
“He’s looked a confident defender and the club that he’s at want him, so he’ll have to wait and have these conversations at the end of the season to see where it takes him.”
