This summer, Newcastle United appears to have a conundrum at the goalkeeper position.

After recovering from an injury, Nick Pope will almost definitely be Eddie Howe’s first choice at Newcastle the next season, but the possibilities beyond him don’t seem all that strong.

Howe has occasionally stood up for Martin Dubravka, and the seasoned goalie is capable of giving excellent performances.

Dubravka isn’t always convincing, though, and Loris Karius has been connected to a move out.

Newcastle has so been connected to a move for a new stopper.

In fact, Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale has been mentioned as a target.

Danny Simpson, a former Toon defender, even said he would be the “ideal” acquisition for Newcastle, and now that David Raya has been signed by the Gunners, it appears the England international will be leaving.

It’s possible that the £30 million stopper has already played his last game for the North London giants.

If Newcastle do want him, however, they will not have things easy.

If Newcastle wants to sign Aaron Ramsdale, they will now face competition.
The Sun claims that Wolves have a strong interest in the custodian.

The Molineux team has identified Ramsdale as a possible successor and may transfer its first-choice player, Jose Sa, to Saudi Arabian clubs.

Aaron Ramsdale may not be wise to join Newcastle this summer

Though it remains to be seen whether or not Newcastle pay would what surely be big money for Ramsdale this summer, it’s unclear as to why he would want the move.

With Pope so important to the way Howe plays, it’s difficult to imagine him coming in as the first-choice No.1.

What, really, would be the point in swapping a back-up role at Arsenal for one at Newcastle?

Pope hasn’t been perfect this season but it’s very difficult to think he won’t be the first-choice when he finally comes back.

Wolves may indeed be a better move for Ramsdale.
