24 April (UPI) — Wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase’s rookie contract had its $21.8 million, five-year option exercised, the Cincinnati Bengals confirmed on Wednesday.

As the fifth overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft, Chase joined the Bengals and agreed to a four-year, $30.8 million contract. He is currently contracted through the 2025 campaign.

During 16 starts last season, the three-time Pro Bowl pick amassed 100 receptions for 1,216 yards and seven touchdowns. On his 81 catches for 1,455 yards and 13 touchdowns, Chase won 2021 Offensive Rookie of the Year. In 12 games in 2022, he gathered in 87 receptions for 1,046 yards and nine touchdowns.

This offseason, the Bengals still have the option to negotiate a long-term contract with Chase and extend the agreement for a number of additional years.
