Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, the Hollywood owners of Wrexham, have already announced who their “dream” signing will be.
The Welsh team defeated Forest Green Rovers handily in League Two earlier this month, securing their promotion to the third division of English football.
Elliot Lee, Paul Mullin, Ryan Barnett, Jack Marriott, and an own goal by Ryan Inniss helped Phil Parkinson’s team win 6-0.
Following their promotion to League Two from the National League the previous season, they made it back-to-back promotions to League One on the strength of their victory.
In anticipation of the summer transfer window, Wrexham has been connected to a number of players, including Macaulay Langstaff, a standout for Notts County.
But in 2022, both Wrexham owners stated that, given the option, they would choose to sign Lionel Messi over Cristiano Ronaldo.
McElhenney stated to Sports Illustrated, “Messi. His size appeals to me.
“I was going to say the same thing,” Reynolds continued.
“I’m not a Ronaldo sleeper. Both of them are amazing athletes. But Messi, too, I believe. Was Gareth Bale not an option?
“I’m immensely proud of the lads today because, when it mattered most, we’ve put in our two best performances of the season,” manager Parkinson stated in response to the team’s promotion.
It’s a fantastic accomplishment for all those associated with the club. A great deal of labor is put in behind the scenes.
Reynolds posted on social media, saying, “A few years ago, you would be Rob McElhenney if you told me I would be crying tears of joy over a football match taking place in North Wales.”
“Congrats to Wrexham and to my co-chairman in crime. Double up the town! This is the ride of our lives.”
