According to Jorge Nicola, West Ham has had a £12.8 million bid to capture Brazilian striker Wesley from Corinthians rejected; however, more bids are anticipated.
Although Wesley is now regarded as “nothing more” than a promising prospect, the Portuguese journalist clarified that the Hammers anticipate making further bids in the summer.
It was also rumored that an Irons representative had visited Brazil and witnessed the forward play three games, which served as the impetus for them to extend the offer.
On April 24, Nicola posted the following on his YouTube channel: “Corinthians rejected a £12.8 million offer for striker Wesley, who is currently only a promise. It’s anticipated that by mid-year, more proposals would surface.
“West Ham even sent a representative to Brazil, where he observed the three matches played by the Corinthians striker prior to proposing this idea.”
West Ham offers Wesley from Corinthians a contract.
Wesley, who is only 19 years old, has only made eight appearances for the senior team this season and has only scored once, supporting Nicola’s assertion that he is only a promising player at this point.
As the Hammers attempt to bolster their front line, there have been linked with other strikers. Michail Antonio and Danny Ings have not lived up to expectations in terms of their offensive capabilities.
The deal would see Tim Steidten continue his plans to recruit younger players from abroad with the ambition to develop them in East London before either integrating them into the first team or selling them for a large profit.
In a time when Premier League teams appear to be perpetually vulnerable to financial fair play concerns, the capacity to acquire players at a discount and resell them for a profit might be essential to safeguarding the club’s financial future.
