This weekend marks the end of Wrexham’s incredible comeback to the Football League as they get ready for their first League One campaign in twenty-one years next season.

With a resounding victory over Forest Green Rovers at the Stok Cae Ras earlier this month, the Red Dragons—owned by Hollywood heavyweights Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney—secured back-to-back promotions.

On the last day of the season, Phil Parkinson’s team travels to North Wales to play champion Stockport County in an attempt to round off the campaign with a win in front of their home fans.

FLW rounds up the latest news surrounding the Welsh club ahead of the final game of the League Two season.

Wrexham in the race for Notts County striker

The Wrexham Insider revealed that Phil Parkinson’s team is eager to acquire Macaulay Langstaff, a striker for Notts County, to their offensive options for the upcoming campaign.

The striker for Notts has kept up his goal-scoring ways, which have helped the Magpies and Red Dragons return to the Football League. According to the same report, Bolton Wanderers and Peterborough United are also interested in signing the 28-year-old.

Additionally, it was claimed in January that a number of League One and Championship teams, including Derby County, Birmingham City, and Sunderland, were interested in signing the striker.

In August of last year, the Notts number nine inked a new contract that would keep him at Meadow Lane until the conclusion of the 2026–2027 season. As a result, a large sum will be required to entice him to leave the East Midlands team.

It is said that Langstaff will cost Wrexham a much more than their current record signing of £300,000 for AFC Wimbledon’s Ollie Palmer in January 2022, should he successfully accomplish a move to the Stok Cae Ras.

Luke Bolton insists Wrexham will still be fired up for Stockport County clash

On the last day of League Two, Wrexham welcomes Stockport County to North Wales.

After defeating Notts County at Meadow Lane earlier this month, Dave Challinor’s team was crowned fourth division champions.

If Parkinson’s team defeats the Hatters at home and Mansfield Town loses to Barrow away this weekend, they will have a chance to finish second in the standings.

Moreover, defender Luke Bolton, who joined Salford City during the January transfer window, has stated that his team would be motivated for the match even if there isn’t anything to play for to guarantee that their campaign concludes with a victory, even though automatic promotion has already been assured.

“We want to win every game that we play,” the 24-year-old told the Leader.

“Okay, we are promoted, but it doesn’t mean that we down tools now, that’s not the group we are and that’s not the staff that we have either.

“We prepare for every game professionally, even now after getting promoted, and can’t wait for the weekend.”

Ollie Palmer confirmed to feature in new Deadpool film

Among all the bizarre events that have occurred at Wrexham in recent years, Ollie Palmer’s appearance in a Deadpool & Wolverine trailer may have been the one that no one anticipated.

When the movie comes out in July, Ryan Reynolds, the owner of the club, will play the comic book character once more. This will be the first installment of the series to be released since the Hollywood star took over the Welsh group in 2021.

However, the more perceptive Wrexham fans noticed their number nine appear early in the teaser, during a scene where Hugh Jackman, who plays Wolverine, is inside a pub.

The 32-year-old has acknowledged that he is in the big-budget film, albeit it is unclear how much of a part he plays and is most likely only making a brief cameo.

Palmer commented on the actor’s Instagram picture of the movie’s trailer, saying, “If you squint.” When a fan questioned Reynolds if the 32-year-old was in the film, he answered, “Keen eyesight.”

After leaving the club, Palmer may pursue a career in movies after making an appearance in the Disney series “Welcome to Wrexham.”
