Dan Ashworth apparently intends to take Newcastle United to arbitration in an effort to pressure them into a move to Manchester United.
After expressing interest in taking a position as sporting director at Old Trafford, the 53-year-old was placed on gardening leave by the Magpies in February.
The Red Devils have been asked to pay the Magpies almost £20 million in compensation for Ashworth.
The Athletic reports that Ashworth will receive support from Manchester United during the arbitration process, which is expected to start in May and last for several weeks.
Ashworth’s choice to use an arbitrator might work in his favor or against him.
Throughout the arbitration process, both parties present their case to an unbiased arbitrator, who then decides who is correct and who is incorrect.
Above all, this avoids an expensive lawsuit for both sides.
If Ashworth departs, the most recent Man United hire, Jason Wilcox, will take over as the head of recruitment, operations, and football performance. Ashworth is now employed by the Magpies.
