Paulo Fonseca is the top candidate that West Ham United owner David Sullivan and director of football Tim Steidten are “seriously considering” to succeed David Moyes.

As a result of his work at Lille, West Ham is said to “adore” the Portuguese coach, according to Foot Mercato.

After leading West Ham to victory in the Europa Conference League and a position in the top half of the table during his second term in command, there is increasing speculation that Moyes will leave the team in the summer.

When his contract expires this summer, it’s thought that the Hammers want to take a different turn, and Fonseca might be the guy to make it happen.

FM claim that the West Ham administration has taken notice of his exploits with Lille in France as well as their success in Europe.
Sullivan and Steidten, specifically, are now “seriously considering” a move for him, having previously made moves for Julen Lopetegui and Ruben Amorim.

The Lille manager is now the “focus” instead of the two, and there’s a “good chance” he’ll depart the French team by June.

It’s interesting that West Ham has already proposed that timeframe; according to a report published earlier this week, they wanted the manager situation resolved by June.

Whether that means Fonseca is now the number one target remains to be seen but it seems he’s made an impression and is very much on the list of potential Moyes replacements.
