According to Philippe Clement, Abdallah Sima’s time with the Rangers may be ended since he is expected to miss the next few weeks due to an injury.
The Senegal international, who just returned from a two-month injury layoff, has scored 16 goals in all competitions this season—a total only surpassed by Cyriel Dessers and captain James Tavernier.
His achievements have led the club to consider making his loan move from Brighton permanent if they can reach a mutually agreeable deal with the Premier League outfit. He scored against Celtic earlier this month to assist the squad earn a 3-3 draw.
With the Ibrox club pursuing Celtic in the title race once again following a recent bad run of results that saw them lose top spot in the table, Clement will have been expecting to have the winger available for the final games of the season.
However, the manager acknowledged that Sima would miss the next “couple of weeks” due to injury during his pregame press conference prior to the match against St Mirren.
Three weeks from now, on Saturday, May 18, is the SPFL season’s last game. A week later, on Saturday, May 25, is the Scottish Cup final between Celtic and the hosts.
In a perfect world, he would be able to play in those matches, but given the season’s worth of injuries at Ibrox, a comeback is not guaranteed.
Rangers won’t get Abdallah Sima for a low price from Brighton.
This implies that the 22-year-old has probably made his final appearance of the season and may have also been his last time wearing a Rangers uniform.
Sima joined Brighton for almost £7 million in 2021 after leaving Slavia Prague, and even though he hasn’t played for the Seagulls yet, Brighton won’t be trying to unload him for a low price.
Rangers will have to make a big choice over how much of their summer budget to spend because Sima still has two years left on his deal at Amex Stadium and they won’t be forced to sell for a low price.
Other parts of the team that require improvement may suffer if they decide to sign him permanently, but if they decide not to, the team will regress right away.
There’s a good probability Sima has played his last game for the Rangers, but it’s a major question for the people in charge to address.
