Leicester City defeated Preston North End 3-0 at Deepdale on Monday night to secure the Championship title.

Leicester has surpassed Manchester City’s record of seven second-tier titles to become the first team in English football history to win eight.

The trophy is ready to be raised in front of the Foxes supporters when Enzo Maresca’s team hosts Blackburn Rovers at King Power Stadium on Saturday.

With a win, the East Midlanders may reach 100 points and finish the season with genuine momentum ahead of their August Premier League campaign.

Leicester City rampant at Deepdale

Jamie Vardy opened the score with his 19th goal of the year as the Foxes easily defeated the hosts.

After halftime, the seasoned attacker added another goal to bring his total to 20, an impressive total considering he has only started 19 games. Vardy would have scored a hat-trick if Freddie Woodman hadn’t made a fantastic save.

Recently back from injury, Kasey McAteer, an Academy product, scored the third goal to cap off an incredible performance by heading in Abdul Fatawu’s tease.

With 13 assists thus far, Fatawu is just two behind Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, the best playmaker.

Jamie Vardy drops subtle hint on his Leicester City future

Vardy is out of contract in the summer and fans have long been calling for his deal to be extended for at least another year.

The 37-year-old gave a hint when Sky Sports reporters asked him whether he would consider giving the Premier League another shot, stating, “Listen, I’m not ready to hang the boots up, legs feel fine.”

“We’ll see what happens, but I feel as fit as I ever have.”

Vardy’s contract will probably require him to accept a wage cut because City is still facing financial difficulties, but Maresca will do everything in her power to hold onto him.

The prolific forward still has a lot to offer, and if given the opportunity, many believe he is more than capable of scoring twice in the top division.

A few weeks that will be telling are ahead.
