Wrexham’s stellar campaign came to an end with a 2-1 victory over Stockport County in the final League Two match.

Because of Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, Wrexham’s return to the Football League was widely reported.

Wrexham triumphantly returned to the National League after years of being stranded there, and they have since dominated League Two.

For the first time since 2005, Phil Parkinson has led Wrexham back to the third division with their promotion to League One.

It has been amazing to watch the back-to-back promotions, and Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Stockport County was the ideal way to cap off the season.

Wrexham came back from a 1-0 deficit to win the match thanks to goals from Ollie Palmer and Andy Cannon in the second half, capping an incredible season.

Now that summer is here, Wrexham supporters have everything to look forward to: major friendlies, new players, another season of “Welcome to Wrexham,” and even a promotion party in Las Vegas.

Phil Parkinson acknowledges difficult choices at Wrexham
Parkinson’s team has to be strengthened at Wrexham since the move from League Two to League One will be significant.

Parkinson has already made it quite evident that hiring well is essential, even before the summer transfer window opens.

While signing players is the main story, Wrexham also needs to make some important contract decisions.

While they have served Wrexham well, seasoned players like Luke Young and Ben Tozer will be free agents this summer.

Parkinson has now told The Mirror that there is a ‘possibility’ that some Wrexham players will be moving on.

Parkinson noted that Tozer and Young haven’t played much lately but have both been ‘outstanding’ in terms of driving the team forward.

The Wrexham boss loves the dressing room atmosphere but will soon have to be made on both Tozer and Young.

“There’s the possibility of players moving on and that is the hard part of any manager’s job but we also know that we’ve got to evolve as a club and we’ll try and do that,” said Parkinson. “But as I just said to the lads in the dressing room that one of the key elements to our success this season has been the dressing room and the lads out of the team.”

“You know, the professionalism has been exceptional, even with Ben Tozer—who hasn’t played much lately—and Luke Young. Amazing, he has inspired the team. The situation in Stockport will be the same. We’ll just make decisions fairly and honestly, he continued. I’m confident decisions must be made.

Don’t be shocked if they both depart.
We offered our forecasts for the out-of-contract players for Wrexham and proposed that Young will go on.

Although the midfielder has been a fantastic asset to Wrexham over the past six years, his lack of playing time suggests that a departure is imminent.

Although Young’s leadership may still be useful, Parkinson won’t want to retain him on the team if he isn’t going to play, and Young’s ascent to League One might be the final straw.

Tozer may also walk on, but he is more likely to be called up for a new contract because he played more League Two games this season than Young did.

A lot will also depend on Tozer’s ambitions. Being three years older than Young, he may find it appealing to join Parkinson’s coaching staff in addition to his playing responsibilities.

There’s a strong possibility that both players decide to move on and play football somewhere else the next season, which would create two significant voids in the Wrexham squad.
