Oliver Glasner’s success at Crystal Palace will likely depend greatly on how well he plays this summer, as it appears that two players are certain to leave.

As the Oliver Glasner era develops, Crystal Palace is anticipated to have a fairly significant player turnover this summer.

This will manifest as large cash outflows and incomings.

Eight players, nevertheless, have contracts that expire in June, and none of them are guaranteed a new deal.

While some people won’t know if Dougie Freedman extends their contracts or not, it has already been revealed that two individuals are nearly certain to leave.

This is who

This summer, two players will undoubtedly be released.
The Athletic reports that two players haven’t made enough of an impression to be considered for a possible new deal.

These two players are James Tomkins and Jairo Riedewald, and neither one particularly possesses the attributes that Glasner is looking for in a player.

It’s bad news for Tomkins’ chances that Joel Ward, Jefferson Lerma, and Nathaniel Clyne were selected ahead of him in the defense.

Despite being given several opportunities, Riedewald hasn’t demonstrated enough to be retained, unlike players like Will Hughes and Jeffrey Schlupp who have made significant contributions on their own.

By releasing these two, the team will have more pay budget available to improve it this summer.

How much will Crystal Palace save on the wage bill?

This summer the departures are likely to fund the rebuild for the Eagles, and free transfer exits are no different.

Letting Tomkins and Riedewald go will free up a healthy chunk which could be utilised on two far more suitable players.

Player Wage Per Year
Jairo Riedewald £55,000 p/w £2.86m
James Tomkins £50,000 p/w £2.6m
Total £105,000 p/w £5.46m

This is a substantial amount which in all honestly is incredible that it’s been wasted on these two this season.

£105k a week is an amount which could hand one or two top targets a healthy wage, for a player who offers Palace 10x what this duo have given of late.
