Zeb Jacobs’s upcoming transfer to Feyenoord was confirmed this week, and Rangers will get a compensation sum for him, according to Dan Plumley.
After declining Manchester City’s offer to take up the position in the Netherlands, Jacobs, the Academy Director at Ibrox now holds, will be leaving at the end of the current campaign to join Feyenoord in the Eredivisie.
According to reports, Jacobs’ contract included a notice period that eliminated the need for Rangers to be notified of negotiations. However, Plumley, an expert in football finance, has revealed that Jacobs’ contract is likely to include a compensation fee to guarantee the Glasgow club doesn’t walk away empty-handed.
“That’s typically how things work out,” he said exclusively to Ibrox News.
“In terms of management, you would expect compensation fees to be in place for anyone who is released from a contract. Finding out the specifics of the pricing is never easy.
Clubs may formally reveal them in their annual reports, but occasionally there may be items vaguely labeled “compensation fee” that leave you wondering who exactly they are intended for, leading to some speculation.
“That will undoubtedly become clearer in the future, but for now, that’s the state of affairs. You’re looking at compensation fees as a possibility, and the type of fee that can be agreed upon depends on the remaining value of the contract and the degree to which both parties are willing to close the deal.”
Rangers surely have replacements lined up
With news already being confirmed of Jacobs’ exit, it would be silly for the club not to already have lined up a replacement or at least started work on bringing someone in.
Jacobs’ job was to make the transition from the academy to the Ibrox first team easier, and this season, players like Ross McCausland and Bailey Rice have contributed to that effort.
However, whomever steps in to take his position will have to carry on with the work and advancements already made, in addition to seeking to assemble the finest players and support their development with the best staff and coaches.
Even though Jacobs is a highly-regarded player, Rangers will benefit from being entitled to pay as they get ready to let him go.
However, it would be preferable for everyone if they could fill this post as soon as possible given the busy summer timeframe that lies ahead with the first-team picture.
