Wrexham have a big summer ahead as they prepare for life in League One next season.

Wrexham have been promoted from League Two along with Stockport County and Mansfield Town.

Phil Parkinson’s side have a few players out of contract at the end of next month.

Here is a look at what to expect from their retained list…

Callum McFadzean to leave?

Callum McFadzean has struggled for game time with Wrexham in this past campaign and is due to become a free agent when his deal expires. He is likely to head out the exit door having played only two league matches since their promotion from the National League last year alongside Notts County.

Players to be released

Aaron Hayden’s deal is due to return out and he hasn’t been able to nail down a regular space in the starting XI this term under Parkinson. He joined his current club from Carlisle United back in 2021.

Wrexham have a big decision to make regarding Ben Tozer. The centre-back injects valuable experience into the squad but at the age of 34, his opportunities may dry up in the division above.

Defender Jordan Tunnicliffe has had his injury problems over recent times and was limited to only seven league appearances last term. The ex-Crawley Town man is another who is facing an uncertain situation.

The Red Dragons’ goalkeeping department could be in line for a shake-up with Mark Howard, Rob Lainton and Liam Hall due to become available. However, they hold 12-month options on the latter two.

Extensions to trio?

Luke Young is Wrexham’s longest-serving player and has been playing his football at the Racecourse Ground since 2018. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him stay put for another year at least.

As for James McClean and Steven Fletcher, the pair have both played in the Premier League in the past and their experience will be valuable heading into League one so the Red Dragons are expected to retain their services.
