A one-year contract extension has now been triggered by another Crystal Palace player, after the extension of Will Hughes’ earlier this week.

Contract expirations have become a contentious topic of discussion at Crystal Palace during the past week.

Two of the players on Palace’s long list whose contracts were set to expire in June have now triggered extensions throughout the last week.

First, following his 31st appearance of the season, Will Hughes triggered his, as was already announced this week.

However, a second player’s contract has now been extended based only on looks.

Let’s ascertain who…

Joel Ward triggers Crystal Palace contract extension

After Hughes’ extension, it seems now that club captain Joel Ward has also triggered an extension after his latest appearance.

As to the South London Press source, the 34-year-old has instigated a one-year prolongation at Selhurst Park.

It was set off after Ward made 25 appearances for the Eagles in the Premier League.

Given that Ward has demonstrated he is capable of being a featured player for Glasner, this is again another wise move made by Dougie Freedman and the Palace Chiefs.

In addition, he is a leader, and these attributes are crucial for the team, which may undergo significant changes in the coming months.

Which players will still be leaving this summer on a free transfer?
There are currently just six players that are scheduled to leave for free on June 30th, as Hughes and Ward have decided to stay for an additional year.

Jeffrey Schlupp is the name most likely to receive an extension because he has developed into a valuable member of the team.

The players who could potentially go are Jairo Riedewald, James Tomkins, Nathaniel Clyne, Nathan Ferguson, and Remi Matthews.

Another player who might sign a new contract is Clyne, who has moved into Glasner’s back three.
