According to Kieran Gill, David Moyes is leaving after his farewell tour took another “disastrous” turn as West Ham fell 5-0 at Chelsea on Sunday, May 5.
The Hammers are reportedly close to signing Julen Lopetegui to take Moyes’ position; the announcement of Lopetegui’s appointment might come as soon as this week, according to The Guardian [3 May].
With only one home match left in the Premier League, when West Ham hosted Luton Town at the London Stadium on May 5, the team suffered yet another heartbreaking defeat at Stamford Bridge.
Gill wrote the following on Monday, May 6, page 7 of The Verdict, a section of the Daily Mail: “With Moyes scheduled to leave West Ham this summer, one fan in the away end sacrificed a bedsheet to show his appreciation.”
“Moysie,” the banner said. I’m grateful. Europe for three years. Champions Even though this is turning into a horrible farewell trip, you hope that this Saturday’s final home game against Luton at the London Stadium would reflect the same gratitude.
David Moyes is now expected to leave West Ham United quickly.
With a deal almost done to replace him as manager at West Ham, the Scot has the ideal chance to cap off his second stint at the club with a bang.
Thanks to Moyes’ leadership and direction, the Hammers have made some amazing memories in recent seasons, winning the club’s first European trophy in decades.
The present manager can only enjoy that glory for a limited amount of time, despite this. Since football is a results-based sport, the Premier League and other domestic competitions have seen extremely underwhelming performances.
The recent 5-2 loss to Crystal Palace last month is only the beginning for this team; the 5-0 loss to Chelsea is just the beginning. But Hammers supporters can make the penultimate game of the season a goodbye party because there is nothing left to play for.
When West Ham plays Luton at the London Stadium on Saturday, May 11, the manager deserves respect, even in light of the unpleasant ending—Moyes appears to have had a falling out with Tim Steidten.
