Although it is still very much on the table, Sevilla has not quite ruled out the idea of hiring Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca this summer.
Vamos Mi Sevilla claims that director of football Victor Orta still has the Leicester manager on his list of candidates to succeed Quique Sanchez Flores.
They clarify that the Spanish director has taken note of the Italian’s “very colourful and attacking game” and feels he fits the mold of a driven, youthful coach that he wants to lead Sevilla going forward.
At first, recruiting him seemed like a pipe dream because of his two-year contract remaining with Leicester and his rumored €10 million termination clause.
The manager may yet leave this summer, though, because of the specter of possible penalties looming over Leicester because of financial difficulties and PSR violations, which might result in the disintegration of the side that was just promoted from the Championship.
He has a meeting scheduled with Leicester’s management to discuss his future, and he hasn’t ruled out going back to Sevilla just yet—mostly for sentimental reasons.
Sevilla wouldn’t be willing to pay for him, mostly because they don’t have the funds available to do so, thus his return would only be feasible if he splits from Leicester entirely.
They may be hoping that he quits Leicester because of their present problems and becomes available, which is highly unlikely to happen, but they aren’t ruling out the transfer entirely just yet.
The media’s portrayal of the Spanish club is all very upbeat, to the point of possibly being delusional.
