Malik Ouzia reports that West Ham appears to be planning to postpone formally announcing Julen Lopetegui as their next manager following some remorse for their public chase.

Some West Ham board members have reportedly expressed a “sense of regret” about how their public promotion of David Moyes’ replacements came to light, according to a journalist with The Evening Standard.

Although Lopetegui has agreed to take over as manager of the Hammers for the upcoming campaign, the club did not officially announce that Moyes will be leaving his position at the end of the current campaign until Monday, May 6, following weeks of rumors.

When will Julen Lopetegui be announced by West Ham?
While providing no information on Moyes’s immediate future, West Ham made no secret of their protracted search for a new manager.

Before reaching a deal on May 6, it was claimed that discussions with Lopetegui had lasted for months. Ruben Amorim, the manager of Sporting CP, was also consulted and had conversations with the Hammers’ management in London.

In addition, Hansi Flick was seen at a London Stadium game. This doesn’t necessarily mean that West Ham intended to speak with him about managing the team, but it was another indication that Moyes was being watched closely.

The Irons board may have really let the mask slip in their overly public pursuit of a replacement, as evidenced by the fact that an announcement on the Scot’s fate was only made on May 6, two games before the season ended.

If Moyes’s future had been revealed earlier, it might have given him and the West Ham players more confidence, as their recent performance suggests that they are nearing the conclusion of a cycle.
