According to an update from injury expert Dr. Rajpal Brar, a key Rangers player has suffered a “muscular setback” and might not play again this season.
Rangers injury updates
The team led by Philippe Clement is set to begin a pivotal few weeks of the season as they attempt to defeat rivals Celtic to win the Scottish Premiership title and earn their first league title since 2021. The Gers are currently three points behind the Hoops at the top of the league. On Saturday noon, the two teams will play a huge encounter at Parkhead.
But with some important players out of action, injuries are posing a concern to Rangers as the season approaches its final weeks. One of those is Ryan Jack, the midfielder who hasn’t played since the team’s March 2-2 Europa League draw against Benfica.
Leon Balogun and Connor Goldson, the defense tandem, are also missing. Neither is anticipated to return for the remainder of the season, and the former may be on his way out since his contract is up this summer.
Rangers hit with damaging injury blow
Speaking to Ibrox News, Brar admitted that Jack is unlikely to feature again for Rangers this season because of a muscular problem, and the Gers will be forced into a cautious approach even once he returns to training.
“f his immediate return is being talked about, then there are no plans for surgery this month, even though it could happen in the off season. The club had said that they were looking at long-term options to deal with his condition which could mean a lot of different things.
“It does seem to be a muscular setback which he’s struggling to recover from and there are still no guarantees he’s back before the end of the season even if he does return to full first-team training as it may take him some time to get fully up to speed.”
This is undoubtedly a blow for Rangers, as Jack has proven to be such a seasoned manager in recent years, amassing 210 appearances for the team and demonstrating the ability to cross the finish line after winning the Scottish Premiership in 2020–21.
This weekend’s away match against Celtic may have been a wonderful opportunity to showcase the 32-year-old’s invaluable big-game acumen, but it appears he will have to watch on in agony.
Considering that Jack’s contract expires at the end of the season, it will also be questioned if this was his last game for the Rangers. He signed a one-year contract last year; it is unclear if he would renew at Ibrox to stay with the team for a few more years, or if he will sign a free transfer to join players like Balogun.
In light of his advanced age, the latter seems the more plausible and prudent course of action. Should that transpire, the £8,000-per-week star should leave having served seven years as a superb employee.
