19 year old George Earthy recently made his return to action for West Ham’s U21 side in a 4-1 win over Blackburn in which the young midfielder marked his return with a goal.

Earthy has been out of action since he was stretchered off at home to Fulham with a head injury after making his Premier League debut. Having followed both the FA and the Premier League’s guidelines around concussions, the young midfielder returned to action for the Hammers U21 side last Friday at home to Blackburn.

The young Hammers won 4-1, including a goal from the returning Earthy, this helped them secure their place in the last eight of the Premier League 2 Play Offs. Earthy, who signed his most recent professional deal at the start of the season, was delighted to get himself on the score sheet and be back out there on the pitch.

He expressed his thanks to the clubs medical staff for their help and assistance in his recovery, and speaking to the club’s website said that the focus is now firmly on pushing on as the Premier League 2 Play Offs continue this month.

“It’s been a bit difficult (being absent for a few weeks).” said Earthy. He went on to add: “It’s not easy being out in those circumstances but all the medical staff have been brilliant and made it a lot easier than it could have been. It’s good to be back out there. I’m happy to score again and get the win against Blackburn too.”

Earthy went on to praise his teammates and the U21’s experience in cup competitions: “This group of boys have got a lot of experience when it comes to these sort of knockout and cup competition situations. A lot of us won the FA Youth Cup last year, so it is situations like this, where it is a knockout or a one off game, that we come into our own. We know how to do it, and hopefully it’s more of the same in this Play Off competition.”
