After a fruitful trial period, West Ham United prodigy Jemiah Umolu is expected to join with Crystal Palace, as reported by South London Press.
The news source reports that the 18-year-old striker scored and provided two assists for the Eagles’ Under-21 team against PSV in the Premier League International Cup semifinal on their website on May 8.
That was enough to convince the team to offer him a two-year contract, and Umolu is set to head to Selhurst Park to follow first-team ace Ben Johnson who is also close to a move across London.
West Ham United squad exodus underway
The club have finally confirmed that David Moyes will be leaving this summer, and the expectation is that several players are going to follow him out of the door.
Alongside Johnson to Crystal Palace, Lucas Paqueta is expected to join Manchester City, while the likes of Michail Antonio, Danny Ings, Maxwel Cornet and Nayef Aguerd are expected to leave.
With Julen Lopetegui expected to take over at the London Stadium he will want to add his own stamp on the squad, and that means it’s unlikely that there will be many youth promotions into the side during his first season.
Players like Umolu will want assurances of an opportunity if they’re going to stay put and with his contract expiring, it just seems like the right thing for everyone right now that he moves on.
It’s going to be a busy summer in east London and it’s already underway, so fans can expect to have plenty of news in the coming weeks about the transfer window.
