Leicester City are where they are because of Jamie Vardy and he should be a part of their Premier League squad, team-mate Harry Winks has said.

Vardy is out of contract at the King Power Stadium this summer but it’s understood that positive talks have been held over a new deal which would keep him at the club as they return to the top flight. That would be a sensible move as far as Winks is concerned, with the midfielder keen for City to keep as many of the Championship-winning squad together as possible.

In Winks’ eyes, Vardy has made City in more ways than one. Not only is the striker at the heart of their story of the past 10 years, but his 20 goals this term were integral to taking them back up.

About Vardy, Winks remarked, “He just sums up this club and epitomises Leicester.” “Players like him and Marc Albrighton are the main reasons Leicester is where they are.

Naturally, I want Vardy to stay because he is a huge player and a crucial member of this club. The more players from this team who can stay, the better for the club. He has been fantastic this season and has helped us return to the Premier League.

As City gets ready to return to the Premier League, Ricardo Pereira, who led the squad alongside Vardy this season, believes his experience will be crucial. With 307 top-flight matches under his belt at 37 years old, Vardy possesses knowledge that he can impart.

“He’s an important player with history here,” Ricardo said. “Everybody loves him. He’s an experienced player who will help the young lads who haven’t played in the Premier League yet. It’s important to have him. So let’s see what happens.”

Last Saturday, Ricardo, along with Vardy and Albrighton, lifted the Championship trophy. The number nine invited his other captains to witness the moment. During the last thirty minutes of Saturday’s match, Vardy also awarded Albrighton the armband; it was the winger’s last for the team. Albrighton claims that the man is measured by that gesture.

If Vardy stays at City, he will be the sole member of the 2016 Premier League-winning team left after Albrighton’s departure. Albrighton claims that even after ten years of acquaintance, Vardy has not provided him with any indications regarding his future.

After Vardy gave him the armband, Albrighton remarked, “It just goes to show the person that Vards is.” “He made it special for me, even though he didn’t have to.” More than words could express, becoming this club’s captain means a lot.

“I think Vardy still has a lot to offer. Next year, I hope to see him here. I haven’t discussed it with him, so I have no idea what he is considering. Next year, I hope to see him here.
