Nottingham Forest No. 43 Ola Aina has recently stated something quite strange regarding Mark Clattenburg.

The 49-year-old recently announced his resignation from his post as a refereeing consultant due to criticism of the role in the media, primarily from Sky Sports and Gary Neville following the extremely contentious 2-0 loss to Everton in April.

As Nottingham Forest prepare for a clash against Chelsea on Saturday – which could secure Premier League safety – Ola Aina has made a bizarre admission about Mark Clattenburg…

Ola Aina makes strange Mark Clattenburg admission

Almost unbelievably, the Nigeria international has told the Guardian he didn’t even know the man from Consett was briefly working at Nottingham Forest.

The Guardian did not specifically quote Aina in saying that, but when writing a prelude ahead of his verdict on refereeing decisions going against Nottingham Forest, it was stated:

As for the four-point deduction that has forced Forest to fight for their lives and the controversies over his club’s public spat with the referees’ body the PGMOL, Aina – who says he wasn’t aware Mark Clattenburg was briefly employed as a refereeing consultant or that he officiates on Gladiators – believes both have made the players more determined.

How odd.

Clattenburg’s role at Nottingham Forest was well documented.

As aforesaid, Neville made quite a loud song and dance about it on Sky Sports – describing Nottingham Forest as a “mafia gang” in comments that the Daily Mail claim legal action has now been taken over.

Therefore, it is hard to believe Aina was unaware Clattenburg worked at the City Ground, although perhaps that is testament to the £40,000-a-week man’s focus and ability to shut out any distractions.

Nottingham Forest must learn from Refereeing Consultant fiasco

In our view, it was a terrible decision to hire a Refereeing Consultant in the first place.

It was hardly going to change the outcome of anything on the pitch – in fact, Nottingham Forest even believe the appointment angered the PGMOL (Professional Game Match Officials Limited).

That was according to the Daily Mail.

Hopefully, another odd move like that never happens again under Evangelos Marinakis.
