West Ham United heralded Nayef Aguerd’s 2022 transfer from Rennes as a major signing; but, subsequent events indicate his tenure at the London Stadium may be ending sooner than anticipated.

The 28-year-old center back, who cost a sizable £34 million to sign, has been caught up in a frenzy of transfer rumors, raising questions about his future at the team.

Aguerd has not been able to adjust to Premier League play, despite his early promise. The English premier league, with its reputation for being strong, physical, and fierce, has presented difficulties for the Moroccan defender, keeping him off the starting lineup this year.

It is therefore not surprising that there have been increasing rumors in recent months about his possible departure.

Hakim Zhouri, a Moroccan football journalist, claims that Aguerd’s agents have alluded to the player’s willingness to leave West Ham.

Given his decreasing importance in the club and Marseille’s apparent interest, Aguerd is willing to look for chances elsewhere. Zhouri’s observations illuminate Aguerd’s thinking, highlighting his longing for consistent first-team action, which has grown elusive in the present managing structure.

In his two seasons with the team, the Moroccan international has made a little over 40 appearances for the Hammers.

Is there still hope for Nayef Aguerd at West Ham United?
The fact that West Ham manager David Moyes is expected to leave the team and be replaced by Julen Lopetegui raises even more doubts about Aguerd’s future. The expected arrival of Lopetegui heralds a moment of upheaval for the team, with major roster changes anticipated.

It is important to note that Aguerd’s style of play is considerably more appropriate for a ball possession style, which is undoubtedly not the focus of David Moyes’ teams. Only two teams had a lower average in the previous season, and only three teams this year have averaged less possession per game than West Ham.

The Hammers will undoubtedly try to control the ball more under Lopetegui, which might work well for Aguerd.
