Although Nottingham Forest’s spot in the Premier League for the upcoming season is all but certain, one player has hinted that he may not stay with the team.
The Reds were defeated 3-2 by Chelsea over the weekend, but on Saturday afternoon, Luton and Burnley also suffered defeats.
Plans for the upcoming season can be made, but a mathematical miracle of epic proportions will be required for Forest to be demoted.
Many players will probably leave the stadium via the exit, but one of the team’s best players has so far given no indication when he plans to leave.
Awoniyi Taiwo makes a statement regarding Nottingham Forest’s future.
The striker made another appearance as a substitute against Chelsea after just making his comeback to the field.
The Nigerian has had a difficult season once more, missing numerous games due to injury.
In an interview with Soccer Net, a Nigerian publication, he now seems to have failed to hang up his boots after this season.
He said: “That’s a tough one, but I’m still under contract with Nottingham Forest and I’m here.
“So for now, I’m a Nottingham Forest player.”
Forest need to get help for injury-prone striker
Forget offloading Awoniyi, the Reds need to get another striker capable of starting games to share the workload.
Chris Wood has done a grand job this year in filling the void whilst Awoniyi has been injured but he’s not getting any younger.
As a result, Forest need to stick with Awoniyi but also sign another striker who can share the goalscoring responsibility.
The player’s injury problems are an issue but given that he’s scored 17 goals since signing for the club for £17 million.
It’s perhaps a little concerning that Awoniyi hasn’t been more defiant when quizzed about his future.
However, football can be a fickle industry for players and now it remains to be seen if he has any offers to leave this summer.
