Tam McManus has predicted that four players will depart Ibrox as part of the “massive” rebuilding task that the Rangers will face this summer.
After Celtic defeated Philippe Clement’s team 2-1 on Saturday, May 11, they all but won the SPFL title for the twelfth time in 13 seasons. This resulted in the manager announcing significant changes will be made during the transfer window.
However, expert McManus stated during an appearance on PLZ Soccer on May 13 that it might begin with four players quitting and that the team might not have the money to prevent their competitors from winning the league title the next year.
He stated, “I still believe there is a significant gap here.” “I can understand his perspective. At the weekend, Celtic was, in my opinion, playing at its best. You have to give the Rangers credit for that as well because they weren’t exactly their best squad.
However, I believe that Celtic will make significant progress this season. I believe that Rangers in the summer, with Lundstram, Barisic, and Goldson potentially out, as well as the goalie
Rangers need to rebuild their entire team, and I’m not sure if they will have the funds to play Celtic again in the upcoming campaign.
“Celtic supporters are saying on social media that ‘we can bury Rangers’ now that they have so much money. Celtic will not go out and invest twenty to thirty million pounds.
“Even if Rangers has that money in the bank, the question is whether they have enough to try and narrow the gap with Celtic. I don’t think Celtic will overspend on transfer money; I think they’ll sign two or three excellent players.
“If Rangers have got the money, and have the financial backing to go and sign five, six, seven quality players to get closer to Celtic, because if they don’t do that then Celtic win the league again next season.”
Change is welcome for Rangers at Ibrox
There aren’t many Rangers fans who would be disappointed if there were wholesale changes at the club during the summer transfer window.
Several players are expected to leave and Clement himself has made it clear there will be changes with the squad, but it’s important that the right players are allowed to leave and adequately replaced.
Someone like Butland should be kept by any means necessary because he is the level of player needed to take the team back to the top of the domestic game.
But players like Lundstram, Barisic and Goldson, among others, aren’t the standard anymore and their exit would be welcomed by many fans.
This is the type of ruthless approach that is needed to get the club back where it belongs, and they must act to ensure Celtic don’t have the chance to “bury Rangers”.
