Mihail Valchev has instructed Levski Sofia to take advantage of Rangers target Jose Cordoba in the event that a high-ball offer is made.
Marin Petkov and Cordoba have been linked to a summer move, and Valchev wants his previous team to sign better players and just cash in on them when they depart.
The 22-year-old Panama centre-back appears to be closing in on a £3million transfer to Ibrox after holding talks with Philippe Clement.
He told Kota Sport, via Rangers News: “It must be seen first what the offers that will eventually be received will be. There are no irreplaceable people in football. Marin and Jose are key players for Levski, but there are certainly players at their level or better to replace them. If they can sell them for good money, I agree, but players at an even higher level should be taken. The goals for Levski are always high, so the maximum quality players should be taken when there is an opportunity.”
Rangers must act quickly to seal Jose Cordoba transfer
Rangers may have to navigate a few steps to secure the signing of Cordoba this summer.
A £3million transfer fee may not be steep but he’s relatively unproven in the top European leagues so that’s always a risk.
The next step would involve obtaining a work permit for Cordoba, as he is a non-EU player.
This process typically requires the player to meet certain criteria based on international appearances and the quality of the league they are coming from.
Given Cordoba’s international experience with Panama and his accolades in the Bulgarian league, this may not pose a significant hurdle.
Gers will need to act quickly as if he’s indeed capable of strengthening their playing eleven, there would be other clubs keen on securing his services as well.
