Leeds United will owe Rangers a six-figure transfer fee for Glen Kamara if they achieve promotion to the Premier League, according to reports north of the border. United took a giant step towards securing promotion to the top flight last night, trouncing Norwich City 4-0 at Elland Road to seal a place in the Championship play-off final on May 26.
The Whites will face either Southampton or West Bromwich Albion at Wembley. They play their return fixture tonight.
Finland international Kamara has been a key man for United in the midfield engine room in their promotion charge, racking up 41 appearances across all competitions. He put in an assured performance alongside Ilia Gruev yesterday as the Whites overwhelmed the Canaries, who sacked David Wagner earlier today following their humiliating loss.
The Whites forked out an initial £5m to sign Kamara from Ranger last summer. However, a report in Rangers Review states that the Ibrox club will bank a bonus transfer payment of almost £500,000 for Kamara if United are victorious at the national stadium.
Farke admits he has been surprised by the Whites’ progress following a slow start to the campaign. “We are at Wembley and we are one game away. If you had told me in September that we would return back to the Premier League I would have said, ‘Really? No chance,’ but now we have a chance,” the German said.
“I signed a long-term contract because I know how difficult it can be to return at the first time of asking.
“Once I signed the contract I was carefully optimistic but when I came here and saw how we were at the end of August… I was a bit more careful.”
