Bolton Wanderers are permanently interested in West Brom full-back Zac Ashworth, according to reporter Alan Nixon on his Patreon.
Last summer, West Brom approved a new loan for Ashworth, a 21-year-old full-back, which saw him join Bolton Wanderers for the duration of the campaign.

He didn’t have a very consistent game schedule with the Trotters, though. Over the course of the season, Ashworth made 23 appearances, managing a respectable three goals and three assists.

In addition, Ashworth did not make the matchday roster for any of Wanderers’ three playoff matches.

Though Ashworth hasn’t seen much play with Bolton Wanderers, reporter Alan Nixon stated on his Patreon that the League One team is eager to retain Ashworth this summer on a permanent basis.

After the heartbreaking play-off loss, Bolton will focus on building their squad and making plans for the upcoming campaign. Evatt appears to be considering turning Ashworth’s borrowing arrangement into a long-term agreement.

A life beyond The Hawthorns?
Ashworth’s future may come under scrutiny in the upcoming months as he approaches the last 12 months of his West Brom contract this summer.

Bolton Wanderers may have a chance to make a deal since the Baggies might choose to cash in on the recent academy graduate rather than take the chance of losing him for nothing next summer.

Ashworth previously played for Burton Albion and has made six appearances for the West Brom first squad.

Now that he has a significant amount of senior experience under his belt, he hopes to play more football in the first team the following season. He turns 22 in September.

Where to Stay at Bolton Wanderers
Although Ashworth appears to be a good player, Bolton Wanderers hasn’t given him much playing time. He will undoubtedly consider that if the League One team tries to hang onto him this summer.

Having said that, they may believe he is more prepared for more playing time the following time around because he fits well with Evatt’s system and has been under their supervision for a season.

If he becomes their permanent player, he will also have greater incentive to improve his game timi.

Though West Brom has not yet decided what to do with Ashworth after he returns from his loan, only time will tell how things turn out.
