James McClean’s bizarre summer training routine includes being punched in the face by his son – which will raise a few eyebrows at Wrexham.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The former Republic of Ireland international has taken little time off since helping the Red Dragons to promotion out of League Two in 2023-24. He did form part of an extravagant party in Las Vegas, but has quickly settled back into life on the other side of the Atlantic.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Boxing has become a familiar theme for McClean as he looks to keep himself in peak physical condition before pre-season begins in earnest for Phil Parkinson’s side. The 35-year-old is enjoying the adrenaline rush that stepping into the ring provides.
DID YOU KNOW?
Injury does not appear to be a concern at present – regardless of what those at SToK Racecourse might think – with McClean sharing a video clip on social media of him being thumped flush in the face by a loving member of his family.
WHAT NEXT?
Wrexham saw on-loan goalkeeper Artur Okonkwo suffer a nasty jaw injury last season and will be eager to avoid any repeat with McClean. Hollywood co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are currently piecing together plans for the summer transfer window – with more fresh faces on their way to North Wales.
