Crystal Palace have shown incredible ambition to beat Manchester United and Atletico Madrid to the signing of Real Betis defender Chadi Riad, LondonWorld has been told. The 20-year-old Morocco international is expected to have his medical next week with a fee of £12million agreed.

Riad has already played twice for his country and moved to Real Betis last summer from Barcelona where he played 30 games and impressed massively as one of the rising stars of Spanish football.

Palace and England defender Marc Guehi is of interest to a number of teams and has been linked to Manchester United as he enters the final two years of his contract this summer.

The arrival of Riad however gives Palace the space and time to listen to offers and decide the strength of the squad ahead of what should be a massive summer rebuild.

The deal to sign the defender, sources say will be a five-year deal with a club option for another year if they were happy with him at the end of his stay in south London.

Eagles get a strong end to the season

The sun is shining over Selhurst after winning five of their last games, finishing 10th, equalling their best finish to a league season. They also got 49 points equalling their best points tally in the Premier League.

The style of football has also got fans excited and that has shown in the backing of Austrian manager Glasner who turned down an offer from Bayern Munich to stay with the Eagles.

The future of Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze is still up in the air and Palace will hope they can keep all their prized asset. Asked about their future last month, Glasner said: “I think they both enjoy being fit, both enjoy getting chances, creating chances. Both enjoy playing football but it’s not just when we’re in possession and scoring goals.

“They have a big contribution in being compact and we want to keep them.”
