Nottingham Forest is aware that in order to adhere to the Premier League’s sustainability and profitability regulations this time around, they must sell players by June 30.

Forest, who managed to avoid elimination, was docked four points for violating the league’s financial regulations the previous year and may suffer a similar fate if they do not take immediate action.

By the last day of June, clubs must turn in their 2023–2024 financial statements. Premier League auditors will then review the three years before to that date.

They are permitted to lose up to £105 million in three years, or £35 million every season, under PSR.

Additionally, the Reds only have two weeks to finish sales because the transfer window officially opens on June 14.

Transfers can be decided upon in advance and then verified when the window is formally opened.

And even if Brennan Johnson’s £47.5 million sale to Tottenham in January is now included in the numbers, I report that they will still need to take this action to prevent another violation of the rules.

When Forest protested the four-point punishment earlier this year, the Johnson move was a crucial component of their case because the Appeal Board ruled that it could not be considered because it was conducted after June 30.

“This year’s figures now include the Brennan Johnson sale,” informed me football finance specialist Kieran Maguire. They have that financial uplift. and removed a few top earners from the payroll.

But it’s insufficient right now. After winning the Championship play-offs and moving up to the Premier League in May 2022, Forest splurged, shelling out over £100 million to assemble a team that could compete in the top division. High-paid players like Jonjo Shelvey and Jesse Lingard signed, although they have already gone on.

“It was absurd how much they were paying for a Premier League team in their first year,” Maguire continued. They were earning £67,000 a week on average. Numerous players arrived on major deals.
