Leeds interested in Gent centre-back Jordan Torunarigha

Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg shared a key transfer update for Leeds this week, revealing Daniel Farke’s interest in Gent centre-back Jordan Torunarigha (above, no.23).

The Nigeria international has been in strong form this season at the heart of the Belgian side’s defence, and is heading to the final tyear of his contract this summer.

A fee between £2.13-2.55million would be expected to seal an agreement with Gent to sign the 6ft2in centre-back.

Max Wöber likely to be sold if Jordan Torunarigha signs for Leeds

Torunarigha is a left-footed centre-back, and with that, it’s quite clear that he’d be competing with Pascal Struijk for a starting berth at Elland Road – expecting that Liam Cooper bids farewell this summer too.

What that means is that Max Wöber is not likely to be returning to the squad for next season, after jumping ship to join Borussia Monchengladbach for the 23/24 campaign

Also a left-footed centre-back, Wöber could have been seen as strong backup to Struijk going into next season, but the 49ers are already setting their stall out about selling the Austrian after reports from Germany indicated a £14.6million asking price for him.

With that, Leeds would have around £12million profit to play with after selling Wöber and signing Torunarigha in his place, giving Farke much more to work with in improving other areas of his side.

In the Nigerian, Leeds would likely be getting a much more fierce physical competitor, based on his frequency in ground duels for Gent, and his overall frame being greater than Wöber’s – which would be key in either division for next term.
