Leeds United needs to sell Wilfried Gnonto due to the contempt he displayed after the team’s playoff final loss to Southampton at Wembley.

As Daniel Farke’s team lost 1-0 and the Whites were relegated to another season in the Championship, the Italy international got the start on the right flank.

But while that was a major disappointment for the club and fans, what happened just minutes after the final whistle should have been the last straw for a number of people and the decision-makers especially.

Wilfried Gnonto wants to leave Leeds United

With the players still on the Wembley turf and some like Archie Gray, Ilia Gruev and Georginio Rutter inconsolable in defeat, a report emerged from Italy that Gnonto wants to leave.

Journalist Francesco Guerrieri reports (26 May) that the 20-year-old wants to return to Italy and that offers from Serie A clubs will get priority this summer as he looks to leave Elland Road.

That’s a huge slap in the face to Leeds and their fans, who have spent the year backing him and supporting him despite the crazy stunt he pulled last summer in trying to force through an exit.

The winger apologized to the club and manager and set out to regain his spot in the lineup only after the 49ers declined to approve his departure.

However, it is completely insulting to announce your desire to leave the club as soon as possible after being unable to qualify for the Premier League, and the team should now sever their relationship with him.

He is clearly solely interested in himself at this time, and he shouldn’t be here if he isn’t prioritizing the interests of the team. The club won’t rise again with that mentality.

It is now up to the 49ers to capitalize and make sure a statement is made. Everybody here is from Leeds.
