Rangers midfielder Kieran Dowell is “on the cards” to return to England during the summer transfer season, Chris Jack has learned.

After being signed by Michael Beale in the summer, the 26-year-old has had a difficult first season in Glasgow. He has only made 16 appearances for the Light Blues and has scored twice while dealing with a lot of fitness concerns.

The Englishman has showed glimpses of his brilliance when healthy and available, but Rangers Review writer Jack thinks Dowell may leave Ibrox this summer and move south of the border.

He wrote the following for the Rangers Review on May 28: “His campaign was limited to just 16 appearances due to injuries.” Yet another failed Beale purchase.

“Going back to England seems likely and would be the best course of action overall.”

Will Kieran Dowell be sold by Rangers and Philippe Clement during the summer transfer window at Ibrox?
Everyone associated with Rangers has had a very frustrating season, but few players have had more challenges than Dowell, who has seen setback after setback in his first season in Glasgow.

When Beale signed him in the summer of last year, many fans were taken aback because they thought Todd Cantwell was the manager’s preferred choice for the number 10 position.

Although it hasn’t worked out for either side, it was possibly a risk worth taking, and Clement is unlikely to take many chances going into the next season. Many stars will have to be sold in order for him to leave his mark on the playing team.

Hopefully, the Gers will be able to earn some sort of fee if they allow Dowell to leave this summer, however, it would be a surprise if English teams were queuing up to secure his signature after his first season at Ibrox.
