Following the Whites’ failure to get promoted, Jack Harrison, a winger for Leeds United, may be returning to Everton on a permanent basis, according to the Daily Mail.
Following Leeds’ 1-0 defeat by Southampton in the Championship play-off final at Wembley on May 26, Everton is optimistic that Harrison will be able to return to Goodison Park for the upcoming campaign.
Harrison temporarily left Elland Road for Merseyside last summer in order to take advantage of a relegation loan option in his contract. However, as the Peacocks are now expected to play in the second division for another season, the Toffees are aiming to prolong Harrison’s stay in Merseyside.
After a strong season on loan, it’s hardly surprising that Sean Dyche wants the 27-year-old back as a regular member of his team.
Does Leeds United have a future for Jack Harrison?
Everton probably wouldn’t have been able to recruit Harrison permanently if Leeds had defeated Southampton to earn promotion, given their unstable financial situation and the Premier League cash that would have been infused at Elland Road right away.
But the Whites’ 1-0 defeat ensures that promotion will not happen for at least another year, which means that, similar to last summer, the club has less control over its want-away players, Harrison among them for sure.
Harrison may have burned his bridges in LS11, but he was the only member of Marcelo Bielsa’s promoted 2020 team to force a loan move last summer. Harrison had a strong season at Goodison Park, with four goals in 35 appearances, and he appears set to seek for a return.
Leeds will need to sell players in order to comply with financial fair play regulations and assemble a team strong enough to win the championship in 2025 if the second division continues. Harrison’s time at Elland Road will undoubtedly come to an end if a small sum of money is offered for him.
