The exciting new era at West Ham United is seemingly well underway with Julen Lopetegui at the helm.
The huge difference many have noticed already is how quick and efficiently the West Ham boss is operating in the transfer market.
Julen Lopetegui has already agreed a deal to bring Fabricio Bruno to the London Stadium, and his business is far from finished.
The Spaniard allegedly wants to bring in at least six new signings before the summer transfer window closes.
The former Wolves boss desperately needs to sign a top-class centre-forward, a left-winger, two full-backs, a centre-back and a central midfielder this summer.
That said, Lopetegui clearly thinks another position is in need of strengthening…
Julen Lopetegui closes in on second West Ham signing
With the Hammers fans screaming out for talented young recruits, Lopetegui appears to be heading down a different route, for now at least.
However, this time I think the player he has in mind will be perfect for what we need.
According to The Athletic, West Ham are closing in on a deal to sign Wes Foderingham on a free transfer after his release from Sheffield United.
Lopetegui is clearly not keen on heading into the new campaign with youngster Joseph Anang as his third-choice goalkeeper.
Now, contrary to what most people are saying, I actually think this is a smart move from the Hammers.
Foderingham will serve as one of our homegrown players, and let’s face it, he won’t play for us unless there is a real injury crisis at the London Stadium.
The fact that he’s available on a free transfer this summer makes a move to sign him an absolute no-brainer in my opinion.
Every club needs a decent, reliable and experienced third-choice goalkeeper. When Lukasz Fabianski leaves the club, Foderingham may well be promoted to the Hammers’ number two stopper, only time will tell with that.
For now though, Julen Lopetegui bringing the 33-year-old to West Ham as our third-choice goalkeeper will be very wise indeed.
