It has surfaced that another one of Daniel Farke’s stars may be departing Elland Road this summer due to “big” interest from other places in their talents.
Leeds is ready for the fire sale.
If the rumors about Leeds United playing Championship football again the next season are to be true, there has been a line at the Elland Road departure door. With £73.5 million in unpaid transfer fees from this summer alone, there are worries that Leeds may need to hold something of a fire sale in order to raise cash.
Before they can even consider possible acquisitions that aren’t loan signings or free agents, they may need to generate more than £100 million from player sales, according to sources.
The player most likely to depart is Crysencio Summerville, the Championship player of the year who has drawn interest from major league teams as well as from throughout Europe. Another player who has drawn interest is the gifted adolescent Archie Gray.
Loanees Marc Roca, Jack Harrison, Max Wober, Diego Llorente, Brenden Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen are all also expected to be deemed surplus to requirements when they return from their spells away this summer, though in the case of Harrison and Roca there are options to let them leave on loan once more this summer.
Now, a new name has been thrown into the fray, with “big” interest in his services ahead of the new season.
Leeds forward in demand
That comes in the shape of Georginio Rutter, who has thrived in England’s second tier this season after flattering to deceive in the Premier League. Signed for a massive £45m back in January 2023, the Hoffenheim man was earmarked as one for the future, to the point that he managed just a single Premier League start as Leeds were relegated.
But in the Championship, things have turned out differently. He missed the first day of the season and was substituted in the second game of the season, but he has started the last 47 Championship games (including play-offs) under Daniel Farke.
During that period, he has only scored seven goals, but he has helped Leeds return to the postseason by dishing out an incredible 17 assists to colleagues.
Adam Pope of BBC Radio Leeds called him “immense” during a particularly strong performance in April against Hull City, highlighting his effort rate in particular.
However, Football Insider reports that the Frenchman has drawn “big” interest since the play-off heartbreak, suggesting that he could now be shown the exit door.
Rutter still has four years left on his £3.5 million contract at Elland Road, so the Whites won’t really need to agree to let him go if the money problems are resolved with other sales.
anywhere though the attacker is only 22 years old, Leeds is unlikely to recover anywhere close to the £45 million they paid to get him if they are forced to sell. However, if his departure allows them to keep players like Archie Gray, they might decide it was a worthwhile loss.
