Wrexham are busy preparing for life in League One and Phil Parkinson will be looking to add new signings in the coming weeks and months.

A number of positions need some attention at the STōK Cae Ras after Wrexham’s promotion to League One.

Wrexham certainly need two or maybe even three centre backs this summer having let Ben Tozer, Aaron Hayden and Jordan Tunnicliffe leave the club.

Phil Parkinson will also need to bring in a goalkeeper having used loanee Arthur Okonkwo in goal last season.

The Arsenal talent was simply outstanding between the sticks for Wrexham, rising to the occasion after Ben Foster’s retirement.

Okonkwo landed himself a spot in the League Two Team of the Season whilst capturing the hearts of the Wrexham fanbase.

Wrexham fans would love to see Okonkwo return to the club on a permanent basis this summer, but his superb displays mean Wrexham may face some fierce competition.

Arsenal confirm Arthur Okonkwo decision

Okonkwo is out of contract at Arsenal this summer and the Gunners were always likely to let him go.

The 22-year-old needs to be playing first-team football and that just isn’t going to happen at Arsenal.

Okonkwo has already indicated that he will be moving on this summer, but hadn’t really given much thought to his next destination.

Well, if there was any doubt about Okonkwo leaving Arsenal, the idea of a U-turn has now been ended.

Arsenal have announced their retained list today and the Gunners have confirmed that Okonkwo is leaving the club.

Okonkwo is one of a number of players leaving Arsenal this summer with Mikel Arteta’s men not changing their stance on his future despite his displays for Wrexham.

The battle for Okonkwo can now officially begin with Wrexham no doubt hoping that he loved his time at the STōK Cae Ras so much that he comes back for more.

Wrexham need to have goalkeeping targets in mind

Okonkwo coming back is the dream for Wrexham fans.

Rob McElhenney has even likened Okonkwo to Michael Jordan, in case anybody was in any doubt about how highly Wrexham think of him.

Premier League and Championship clubs will certainly have been impressed with Okonkwo this past season though and Wrexham need to have other targets in mind.

Mark Howard appears to be staying put and Luke McNicholas has some potential but Wrexham will need a number one stopper.

Wrexham could go for another up-and-comer in the mould of Okonkwo, attempting to lock down the goalkeeping positions for years to come.

Alternatively, Parkinson could target a proven League One stopper to come in and bring a calming presence at the back.

Wrexham can’t put all the eggs in the Okonkwo basket and certainly need to have other options on the list, just in case the departing Arsenal talent is tempted elsewhere.
